Our Pride Winners!
All throughout Henrico Doctors Hospital, youll find nomination boxes for Recognizing Excellence, the hospitals employee recognition program. Practically anyone co-workers, patients, patients families, visitors can submit a form to recognize an employee for outstanding service. Each recipient of a Recognizing Excellence form gets a copy of the commendation, and copies of all submissions are collected for the hospital-wide PRIDE award. The Employee Activities Committee then reviews these submissions and votes for the employee whose commendation best adheres to the qualities represented by the programs acronym:
- Patient-Focused Care
- Respect for Others
- Integrity in Action
- Developing Partnerships
- Excellence Is the Standard
Employees who are selected for the PRIDE Award are awarded a PRIDE pin (designed by a HDH Employee), a cake and a set of four crystal glasses embossed with a sketching of their respective campus. Photos of the winners are displayed in the specially designed PRIDE cases located in each campus cafeteria.
Here are some recent winners and their stories of service to take PRIDE in:
Wendi Atwood
IVCU
Nominated by: a co-worker
|
When her nominator needed an RN to help in the outpatient cath lab and all the nurses in the inpatient lab were already busy holding their own patients and staying overnight, Wendi helped out even having just finished an eight-hour shift! "Wendi was awesome," said her nominator; she "came into the middle of a holding situation where a patient was waiting to be admitted for surgery the next day. . . . Everything Wendi did was geared towards the patient being able to have a restful night, the night before his CABG. She is so efficient, calming, and comforting to her patients." |
Teller Waldrup
Med/Surg 2 South
Nominated by: Patients and their families
 |
Teller was nominated by no fewer than five patients who submitted "Recognizing Excellence" forms; she was also recommended by a patient's family member who took the time to commend Teller in a letter, which is exemplary of all the praise she garnered on the forms as well: "Of all the nurses that my mom had in her 6 days, Teller was the most professional and the epitome of Nursing. . . . She cared, checked on us, and never failed to remind us that she was just a button away from taking care of our needs. . . . Teller was always ready to keep me informed and always gave me a sense of understanding and most of all comfort." |
